Chapter 3: GreenWave Seaweed Hub

GreenWave Seaweed Hub.

Regenerative ocean farming is a replicable, accessible, and sustainable solution to the climate crisis. Zero-input, polyculture seaweed and shellfish farming is a powerful opportunity to address rising social and economic inequalities facing coastal communities.

GreenWave works to replicate and scale regenerative ocean farming in coastal communities to create a blue green economy—built and led by ocean farmer —that ensures we all make a living on a living planet.

Farming

GreenWave’s Regenerative Ocean Farming Hub is a free suite of seed-to-sale courses, tools, and a collaborative community, designed to connect practitioners, solve technical questions, and speed innovation in the field.

Kelp Hatchery

Current GreenWave projects include replicating affordable and climate-resilient kelp seed hatchery technologies to increase seed supply and development of farmer owned dockside processing infrastructure.

Seaweed Source

GreenWave’s Seaweed Source connects farmers with buyers, and supports farmers and prospective buyers with value chain coordination, processing, and logistics planning in food, agriculture, and bioplastics, as well as other emerging markets for kelp.

Kelp Climate Fund

The Kelp Climate Fund compensates farmers for the positive benefits of their work, providing direct
payments for a bundle of climate impacts that include blue carbon, nitrogen removal, and reef
restoration.
